Pinch-Pleat Drapery and Hardware

Pinch pleats concentrate fabric into structured groups at the top of the panel. That tailored heading can hang from decorative rings or from carriers inside a traverse rod.

Common pinch-pleat variations

Double and triple pinch pleats are the most familiar versions, but goblet, cartridge, Euro, and inverted pleats use related construction principles. The heading style changes the visual rhythm, fullness, and stack, but the panel still requires a secure connection to rings or carriers.

Decorative rings or traverse carriers?

A stationary or hand-drawn decorative pole typically uses rings with eyelets. A traverse rod uses internal carriers, allowing the decorative exterior to remain visually clean while the panel moves through the track.

Planning the stack

Pleated drapery compresses into a package when opened. The stack depends on fabric thickness, lining, interlining, pleat construction, panel width, and the number of carriers or rings. For wide openings, the designer should decide early whether the drapery stacks over the glass or beyond it.

Hardware considerations

• Confirm the ring or carrier capacity for the fabric weight.
• Plan bracket placement so supports do not block moving rings.
• Confirm the return depth and overlap at the center.
• Use a wand when repeated handling could soil or distort the fabric.
• For motorization, verify the heading and master-carrier connection with the workroom.
